General Material Guidelines - Building a Mold |
|
|
|
Small molds are like small parts in that they cost almost as much a medium ones. What is a small mold? A small mold would typically be less than 24” in two directions. A medium-sized mold would be something less than 48” in both length and width and a large mold is something bigger than that.
Remember that your mold needs to be at least three times thicker than the part that you will be pulling.
Regardless of the type of small part you are trying to build, you will also need to make sure you have:

Mold Prep |

The shininess and smoothness of your part a direct result of the quality of your mold surface. If it needs some touching up, you will need our Mold Polishes.

The most successful system is our Parting Wax and PVA System.

Pigments:
If you want to make a colored part, you will need to add pigment. Click here
for the selection of available colors.
Respirator:
Regardless of the “smallness” of your project, we recommend working in a well ventilated area and wearing an organic vapor respirator when working with resins. Gloves are included in all of the Mixing Sets and Starter Kits shown below. Click here
to view our Organic Vapor Respirator.
Now you need to decide what kind of part you are interested in making:
Polyester/Fiberglass
Epoxy Fiberglass
